February 2014: Wherein everyone bought a Subaru
In news that comes as a surprise to those living under an assortment of rather large boulders and absolutely no one else, Subaru’s 2014 is off to a pretty great start. After a brief taste of record smashing in 2013 (and 2012, and 2011, and, well, you get the idea), Subaru of America decided they just couldn’t get enough, as the past month saw the brand’s sales rise 24% over February of last year. Most notably, the Forester is selling like hot cakes would sell if people still bought hot cakes, with a 95% increase over February 2013. Not to be left behind, the Impreza-based XV Crosstrek climbed 68%, while the more performance-minded Subaru fans pushed the BRZ and the WRX to a 47% and a 21.2% increase, respectively.
That’s a whole lot of Subarus. Is the huge jump due to our slightly prolonged and exceptionally harsh winter? Or are more and more people just catching onto the fact that this performance, safety, and value just can’t be beat? Nobody can say for sure, but we can say this with both certainty and conviction: Great job, America. Keep it up.
